Jaguar Engineers Craft a Custom 1984 XJ6 for Iron Maiden Drummer

Jaguar has been a pillar of the luxury market for generations. In that time, it’s earned more than a few fans, many of whom have stuck with the brand for years after they first drove off a dealership lot. One of its most stalwart devotees? Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain.

Buying his first Jaguar in 1987, McBrain has remained a fan of the brand ever since. Most recently, this led him to commission a custom a refurbishing of a 1984 Jaguar XJ6. For more than 3,500 man hours, the engineers at Jaguar Land Rover Classic Works refinished and redesigned around 4,000 parts for the vehicle. While they worked hard to maintain the overall look of the classic car, they made substantial updates to its exterior, interior, drivetrain, suspension, and interior features.

Suffice it to say, McBrain was more than pleased with the end product. “This is my ultimate XJ – my third, and lovingly named ‘Johnny 3’. It has been a true labor of love between Jaguar Classic and myself,” he said. “It really is a Greatest Hits edition and to me it defines what the Jaguar XJ is all about. It’s a credit to the craftsmanship of the Jaguar Classic team.”

McBrain’s custom XJ6 is, of course, just a small piece of what Jaguar is capable of.
